چکیده

ABSTRACT In a previous paper, we presented the results of applying machine learning to classify whether an H i 21-cm absorption spectrum arises in source intervening sightline more distant radio or within host itself. This is usually determined from optical giving redshift. However, not only will this be impractical for large number sources expected detected with Square Kilometre Array, but bright are most ultraviolet luminous at high redshift and so bias against detection cool, neutral gas. Adding another 44, mostly newly absorbers, sample 92, test four different algorithms, again using line properties (width, depth, Gaussian fits) as features. Of these three gave some improvement over sample, logistic regression model best results. suggests that inclusion further training data, new absorbers detected, increase prediction accuracy above current ?80 per cent. We use zabs = 0.42 towards PKS 1657?298 find associated, which consistent study zem ? K-band magnitude–redshift relation.

Lensing Reconstruction Using Redshifted 21 Cm Fluctuations

We investigate the potential of second generation measurements of redshifted 21 cm radiation from the epoch of reionization (EOR) to reconstruct the matter density fluctuations along the line of sight. To do so we generalize the quadratic methods developed for the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) to 21 cm fluctuations. The three dimensional signal can be analyzed into a finite number of line o...

The present generation of radio telescopes, combined with powerful new spectrometers, is opening a new age of redshifted radio absorption-line studies. Outfitting of arrays of antennas, such as the European VLBI Network and the upgraded VLA, with flexibly tuned receivers, will measure sizes and kinematics of intervening galaxies as a function of cosmic time. Shortly after the discovery that qua...

Prospects for Redshifted 21-cm Observations of Quasar Hii Regions

The introduction of low-frequency radio arrays over the coming decade is expected to revolutionize the study of the reionization epoch. Observation of the contrast in redshifted 21cm emission between a large H II region and the surrounding neutral IGM will be the simplest and most easily interpreted signature. We assess the sensitivity of three generations of planned low-frequency arrays to qua...

The First Light seen in the redshifted 21–cm radiation

We show how the investigation of the redshifted 21–cm radiation can give insight into the development of structures in the early universe (at redshifts z > 5). In particular we investigate: the epoch of the first light; the fluctuations in the redshifted 21–cm emission induced by the density inhomogeneities in CDM dominated universes; the emission and absorption shells that are generated around...

Redshifted 21-cm Signals in the Dark Ages

We have carried out semianalytic simulations to build redshifted 21-cm maps in the dark ages. An entropy-floor model is adopted for planting protogalaxies in simulated minihaloes. The model allocates gas quantities such as baryonic mass and temperature to every N -body particle and extensively exploits the particle nature of the data in the subsequent analysis. We have found that the number den...
